OSHA Top 10 Citations of 2016 vs 2017

Interesting Finds:

1. The Top 5 most frequently citations from 2016 is the same in 2017. With Fall Protection being the most frequently cited standard by nearly 2,000 more compared to Hazard Communication.
2. The number of Hazard Communication citations written is 2,000 less than the previous year.
3. Powered Industrial Trucks and Ladders swapped the number 6 & 7 spots from 2016 to 2017.
4. Machine guarding maintains the 8 slot.
5. New comer to the 2017 list is Fall Protection-Training Requirements (1926.503). This specifically relates to the company’s failure to train individuals according to the standard.
6. With Fall Protection-Training Requirements being added to the list Electrical-Wiring Methods dropped to the 10 slot and Electrical-General Requirements falls off the Top 10 list.

  
Good News:
The good news is overall the number of citations written is down for the top 10 list besides Fall Protection training. But, with several months of data to go, there is still time left in the year and it will be interesting to see what the final citations numbers will be.
Another positive from this list is that all citations can be avoided through proper training and ensuring employees are complying with the training. Another key aspect of training, is to ensure you have the proper documentations for the training. A record management system, like STAC, is a great resource that can be used to maintain all your employee training records.
